About
the
Wilderness
Road Dulcimer Club
In
July of 2005 four local residents began to play
dulcimer together. Member Joan Porter had received a
grant from the Puffin Foundation to support the
promotion of the Appalachian Dulcimer in Rose
Hill. This group decided to give a free
performance in downtown Rose Hill, Virginia on
August 27, 2005 to promote the idea of a dulcimer
club. They performed at the Barnyard Dance
Club and had a full house. A local dulcimer
builder donated a beautiful cherry dulcimer to be
given away as a door prize. From this
performance we had several people start attending
the Tuesday evening meetings and formed the
"Rose Hill Dulcimer Club"
At
the last meeting of 2005 the club members voted to
change the name of the club to "Wilderness Road
Dulcimer Club".
